The resin mainly plays the role of transmitting stress, so the resin plays an important role in the strength of Fiberglass, especially the compressive, bending, torsional and shear strength are more significant.
As the resin is a matrix material, it has an impact on the elastic modulus, heat resistance, electrical insulation, electromagnetic wave resistance, chemical resistance, weather resistance, and aging resistance of Fiberglass.
The resistance to chemical liquid erosion and water resistance of columns such as Fiberglass mainly depends on the properties of the resin matrix. Unsaturated polyester resin 197 # usually has better chemical resistance, while 1289 # has better water resistance. Different types and different grades of resins have different properties.
The resin content also has an effect on the performance of Fiberglass, usually the resin content is 20% -35%, which is related to the molding method and Zengqiang materials. For example, winding and compression molding, the resin content is low, while hand layup molding, resin content is slightly higher. The resin content of the strength layer is slightly lower, usually between 25% and 40%; the resin content of the corrosion-resistant and impermeable layer is generally higher than 50%. Glass cloth is used as the reinforcing material, and the resin content is lower than that of glass mat.

The so-called interface is the interface between any two-phase material.
The performance of Fiberglass sculpture is not only related to the reinforcing materials and synthetic resins used, but also to a large extent the quality and durability of the fiber-resin interface adhesion.
As we all know, glass fiber is a kind of cylindrical glass, the surface is as smooth as glass, and the surface also often firmly adheres to a thin water film, which of course affects the bonding performance of glass fiber and resin.
In particular, in the process of drawing and weaving glass fibers, in order to achieve the purpose of bundling, lubrication, and elimination of static electricity, a layer of infiltrant is often coated.This infiltrant is mostly paraffin-like substances, which remain on the surface of glass fiber. Synthetic resin and glass fiber act as a barrier, preventing the two from bonding. It can be seen that the interface has a great influence on the performance of Fiberglass.
Problems with the interface need to be addressed. For example, the glass fiber surface is covered with a layer of surface treatment agent, so that the glass fiber and the resin can be firmly bonded together. This method is a very effective way to improve the basic properties of Fiberglass, and is being vigorously studied and adopted at home and abroad. Practice has proved that glass fibers and their fabrics, after being treated with a surface treatment agent, not only improve the abrasion resistance, water resistance, and electrical insulation properties of glass fibers, but also increase the strength of glass fiber reinforced plastics, especially in wet conditions.
In addition, Fiberglass and other materials or Fiberglass itself have multiple interface problems.
For example, if the inner layer of the metal tank is made of Fiberglass anticorrosive lining, the inner surface of the metal tank needs to be cleaned, such as removing dirt, oil, moisture and rust, and often used sandblasting and pickling.
If the metal surface is not treated well, the Fiberglass lining will fail. Sometimes, you will encounter a cured glass fiber reinforced plastic layer, and then bonding the glass fiber reinforced plastic, there will be interface problems. If the layered curing process or Fiberglass damage repair is used, the surface of the Fiberglass layer needs to be treated to remove dirt, oil, water, etc., and the sandpaper on the surface needs to be roughened to increase the bonding area, otherwise, it will Delamination defects appear.
It can be seen that in addition to the two major components of glass fiber and resin, the factors that affect the quality of Fiberglass and its products are also very important.
